Thom Filicia
Thom Filicia made his mark on the industry by taking ordinary people and upping their style quotient with humor and compassion through his role on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, but Filicia started designing long before his membership in the Fab Five set him on the fast track for success.
Starting around age five, Filicia took the liberty of rearranging furniture and moving accessories in his parents’ home. At age 11 he was making staging suggestions to his realtor mother. Though he claims to have been torn between a career in architecture or design, these early years foretold his future success as one of the industry’s brightest design stars.
Filicia’s focus as a designer has always been on his clients. Whether it’s a high profile client with a generous budget or a design-challenged homeowner on one of his shows, Filicia finds a way to truly tailor their homes to their lifestyle.
His new fabric collection with Kravet is a way to introduce a style, he says, that is fresh, modern and accessible. He is known for his thoughtfully personalized interiors, which feature richly layered textures and colors for a lived-in yet highly sophisticated feel. His fabrics represent these ideals through a selection of prints and weaves in contemporary patterns and colors such as yellow, grey, blue, orange, and white.
Honored as one of House Beautiful’s Top 100 American Designers and House & Garden’s Top 50 “Tastemakers,” Filicia is one of the most recognized names in interior design. He was honored with an Emmy and an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Art Direction for his work on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, and also starred in and produced two Style Network series, Dress My Nest and Tacky House, both of which focus on making design accessible and inspiring to those lacking focus in their homes.
Filicia is the recent recipient of Interior Design magazine’s Merit Award for Outstanding Eco-Design. Filicia owns a successful New York-based interior design firm, Thom Filicia, Inc., which specializes in residential, commercial, and hospitality projects. Thom is also the author of Thom Filicia Style, his first book, which was released in Fall 2008. He has earned numerous industry accolades for his work with high profile clients such as Jennifer Lopez, the W Hotel chain, and St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City.
